JPIC Commission Visits the New Frontier of the Claretian Mission
Journeying with the Indigenous people in Datal Anggas, Saranggani Province There is a new Claretian mission frontier in the Philippines with the Indigenous People (IP). It is located in the south eastern Mindanao in Datal Anggas, Sarangani Province. I went there last September 3-8, 2014 with the main objective to visit and experience the new Claretian IP mission. It was really a different experience for me as I traverse the road that sophisticated people won’t dare to travel. Indeed in terms of Claretian mission in the Philippines it is unique, challenging yet inspiring. The mission started with a commitment of the Claretian Philippine Province to accompany Indigenous people last 2010 in the 12th Provincial Chapter. After that, the succeeding years of Claretian missionary life was putting flesh to this written commitment. And eventually it brings forth the Claretian community in Datal Anggas Mission Station. At present, there are two zealous Claretian...

WEST NIGERIA: TO TURN PARISHES INTO PLACES OF EXPLANATION, STUDY AND A DEEPENING OF THE WORD OF GOD

WEST NIGERIA: TO TURN PARISHES INTO PLACES OF EXPLANATION, STUDY AND A DEEPENING OF THE WORD OF GOD
The Assembly of the Delegation of Western Nigeria held in 2001 made a firm commitment to spreading the Word of God. This required a dedicated team to raise awareness of the Bible, and to preach in retreat centres about the Word.  This team has already published several pamphlets, in a collection called “Servants of the Word,” about catechetical and religious issues from the point of view of the Word of God. Also in the parishes of the Delegation, conferences were systematically organised, about the Bible.  Daily reading, in public, about the Word of God is also practised; reflections have been inserted in the parish bulletins; holding the rite of ‘enthronement’ of the Bible in homes; promoting Lectio Divina; spreading the Sunday homily through media, etc. Another initiative is to put into Churches, a kind of suggestion box where the faithful suggest biblical themes which are then addressed in parish conferences. It...

KOREA: SPREAD THE WORD OF GOD AND MAKE IT A PROPHETIC TRUTH IN SPECIFIC PLACES

KOREA: SPREAD THE WORD OF GOD AND MAKE IT A PROPHETIC TRUTH IN SPECIFIC PLACES
The Claretian presence in Korea began thirty years ago with the support of a group of laymen. This collaboration has continued and today there are lay groups at several locations:  they are our benefactors. With them, in three different places, a program of study is being delivered about 24 biblical characters, in monthly meetings, with three meetings being devoted to each character.  It is a means of helping them to understand the Bible better and to apply it to their lives. Moreover, the Claretians of Korea have a retreat house in Nampyeong where retreats and other meetings focused on the Word of God are organised.  Some Claretians also give talks in various locations. This desire to make known the Word and live it in the community has led the Claretians of Korea to far off and needy places in marginalised environments. As an example, the Wontong Mission, on the border between...

COSTA RICA: TO SUCCEED IN SUPPORTING THE MOST NEEDY STARTING WITH THE POPULAR AND COMMUNITY READING OF THE WORD OF GOD

COSTA RICA: TO SUCCEED IN SUPPORTING THE MOST NEEDY STARTING WITH THE POPULAR AND COMMUNITY READING OF THE WORD OF GOD
In 2005, the first Bible Centre was created in the Claretian Retreat House in San José, Costa Rica. Here “popular and communal reading of the Word of God” is practised. We also study the Bible in workshops, in coordination with other church bodies dedicated to the investigation of the Word of God. More than 250 people have come to participate in these study workshops.  Finally, we have created a itinerant team which takes these reflections about the Word to other places in Costa Rica. As a result of this study and community reading of the Word, and working on shared Mission, members of the Bible Centre have discovered the need for real commitment to Justice and Peace. Specifically, they have begun to accompany a group of Nicaraguan immigrants who have arrived in Costa Rica. They have created a small colony near the Bible Centre and from there the immigrants are encouraged...
