2nd Encounter of Claretian Bible Team Held in Spain

Madrid, Spain. The Claretian Biblical Team, convened by the General Prefecture of Apostolate, met for the second time from 17 to 23 of July in Colmenar Viejo, Madrid, Spain. crucecaminos 3The encounter was entitled "crossroads" and involved experts in Biblical-Pastoral areas on evangelization like Fr. Juan Bautista Florez, CMF of Colombia-Venezuela, the present Coordinator of the Biblical Team, Fr. Arul Robin, CMF of Chennai, Fr. Henry Omonisaye of West Nigeria, Fr. Emeterio Chaparro, CMF of the Province of Santiago, and Fr. José Vidal, CMF, head of the Biblical Apostolate of MICLA. Also involved are the experts or heads of publications such as Fr. Alberto Rossa, CMF of Claretian Publications - Macau, Fr. Jude Langeh, CMF, Prefect of Apostolate of Cameroon and head of Claretian Publications - Lagos, Fr. Martin Amalanathan, CMF of Claretian Publications of St. Charles Lwanga, Fr. Jacob Arackal, CMF Prefect of Apostolate of Bangalore, representative of Claretian Publications of Bangalore, and Fr. Josep Roca, CMF along with Lay Claretian Publications of Barcelona Director Marcelli. Also attending were Information Technology experts: Fr. Jesus Centeno, CMF of Santiago Province who is presently handling the Ciudad Redonda and many other websites as well as the website of the General Government, and Fr. Louie Guades III, CMF of the Philippine Province who is in-charge of the CMF Portal Biblico, Prefect of Formation, and The Forge websites aside from many other sites. 


The group assessed the road journey of the Team from its last meeting Quibdó, Columbia in 2012. The leaders of the various continental areas also reported on the Bible-based projects being made done in their continents. Furthermore, the meeting conclude with the development of a number of proposals for the next General Chapter of the Congregation on which are stated below:


The Claretian Missionaries are “servants of the Word”. This is our vocation. A Word that fills us with joy, as Pope Francis tells us in his apostolic exhortation “The Joy of the Gospel”.

As a group of Claretians, who form part of the Biblical Team of the Congregation, together with various Claretian Publishers and experts on the Internet, we gathered together in Colmenar Viejo (Spain) from the 17th to the 23rd of July under the theme “Crossroads”. We came from Cameroon, Tanzania, and Nigeria in Africa; Bangalore and Chennai in India; the Philippines and China; Colombia and Central America, Barcelona, Madrid and Rome.

In this “Crossroads” we have presented projects and initiatives which are being carried out on each continent in the Claretian Biblical Ministry; also, the projects and initiatives that the eleven Claretian publishers of the Claretian Congregation are carrying-out in the biblical field. And we have studied proposals of the presence of the new means of communication that the internet places before us.

BEC Leaders' Assembly - North

Bulwagang Claret, Quezon City - The BEC Leaders Assembly for the Claretian missions in the north was finally held last February 20 - 21, 2014 at the Bulwagang Claret of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish located at UP Village, Diliman, quezon City with the same theme: "The Word of God Builds and Strengthens Communities." The activity was organized by the Biblical Commission headed by Fr Pedro Cleofe, CMF with the support and help of his Bible Commission member Fr. Angelito Ancla, CMF who at the same time the Parish Priest of the host parish. It was participated by some personel from the FEED of Claret School of Quezon City, lay leaders from Montalban, from the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, and some employees from the Claretian Publications and the Office of the Procure.

Fr. Amado Picardal, CSsR, Executive Secretary of the CBCP-BEC Committee gave an input based from the theme itself during the first day of the assembly. The assembly ended with an exposure to the BEC handled by the Claret Urban Poor Apostolate in Montalban.

BEC Leaders' Assembly - South

On January 23 to 25, 2014   BEC Leaders from the different Claretian parishes, mission posts in Visayas and Mindanao gathered together at the Lay Formation Institute of San Antonio Maria Claret Parish, Zamboanga City. The BEC Leader’s Assembly was organized by the Bible Commission of the Claretian Missionaries – Philippine Province headed by Rev. Fr. Pedro Cleofe, CMF. Luzon is scheduled to have the assembly on February 20 – 22, 2014 at the Bulwagang Claret of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish in Quezon City.

The Assembly discussed about the present BEC situation of each and every Claretian posts in Ormoc, Zamboanga Sibugay, Basilan, and Zamboanga City. Likewise, Fr. Pedro Cleofe, CMF introduced to the participants the BEC structure and program of the Diocese of Ipil. Furthermore, Fr. Angel Calvo, CMF gave a comprehensive presentation of his experiences, insights, reflections on BEC and gave some posing questions and recommendations on how to revitalize BEC in the mission areas of the Congregation. The participants plan to re-echo the discussions and to further strengthen BEC in their respective areas.

BEC Leader's Assembly Postponed Due to Zamboanga Crisis

Zamboanga City - The scheduled BEC Leader's Assembly (BLA) on September 12 - 14, 2013 at the Lay Formation Center of San Antonio Ma. Claret Parish in Zamboanga City had been postponed to another date that will be announced later on according to Fr. Pedro Cleofe, CMF, head of the Biblical Commission due to the current crisis in Zamboanga City inflicted by the MNLF early Monday morning, September 9, 2013. There are no flights in and out of Zamboanga and no sea crafts from Basilan and vice versa.

Meanwhile, regarding the current situation in the city, gunshots were heard and helicopters were flying over the area early this morning according to the youth of San Atonio Ma. Claret Parish. On the other hand, San Antonio Ma. Claret Parish under the leadership of Fr. Angel Angeles II, CMF, the Parish Priest, opted to what is most urgent and effective means of living out the Gospel: address first the needs of the displaced families and evacuees in the nearby grandstand where thousands of fleeing residents are staying right now. The parish is now asking favor from people who wish to donate food and goods for the evacuees to send them to the Parish Office anytime of the day. The Formation Center had been thought of being used as an evacuation center but due to the scheduled BEC Leaders' Asembly, it had been reserved. Now that the BLA had been postponed, the parish might convert its place into an evacution center should there be no more space in the grandstand as it had been thought earlier.
